Convened by Denise Dodd and Directed by Trevor Strickland, this is an annual QBA sponsored Red Masterpoint event now approaching its 6th year.  Originally devised for bridge players who remain in Brisbane over the Festive Season, it now attracts players from all over Queensland.

The successful format, usually over 5 days and nights, has workshops by Paul Lavings, six sessions of walk-in pairs, culminating in a “Teams-of-Three” for novices on the final day.  Although held at the Brisbane Bridge Centre, Annerley, the event is “non-denominational” and has a wide following from other clubs.

Paul, a Sydneysider, is a well known teacher, player and writer and holds the world record for representing Australia with NINE different bridge partners.  He loves coming to Brisbane for this event and as well as conducting the very popular workshops, plays in most sessions, including captaining one of the novice teams.

There are lots of prizes, including one for each session as well as overall prizes for the winners (usually the pair with the best FOUR scores from the SIX sessions) the idea being that you can play in as few or as many sessions as you like.

The Teams-of-Three is a particularly popular event as it is for novices only, who are allocated an expert captain by ballot to play on the day.  This gives the novice an opportunity to gain confidence by playing with an experienced player in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, as well as meeting others from various places.

QBA President, Keith McDonald is a big supporter of the Brisbane Festival and is seen below with his winning team
